Frequently Asked Questions

When will The Hedrick House be complete?

The Hedrick House is currently in the planning phase.  Some of the major milestones ahead are:

    • Procuring the right property
    • Completing an architectural schematic to give a clear picture of what The Hedrick House will be like, for both potential residents as well as donors
    • Raising the needed funds
    • Construction
    • Staffing
    • Selecting residents

As you can see, there is a lot ahead.  However, if everything goes according to plan, we believe The Hedrick House could open within 2 to 3 years from now.  Stay tuned!

How much will it cost?

A goal of The Hedrick House is to provide affordable housing for those with significant physical disabilities.  We understand that the level of income for our residents will vary greatly, with some being able to work fulltime, others part time, and some not able to participate in the workforce.  Because of this, we will be offering a variety of housing options, including private one bedroom apartments as well as affordable suites with a bedroom and kitchenette opening to common living space.  Our desire is that some, if not all, utilities will be included  in the rent.  However, specific monthly costs will not be finalized until land cost and construction estimates have been determined.

Are there any age limits?

The minimum age to rent an apartment in Birmingham is currently 19 years old.  There is no maximum age.

Where will it be located?

The Hedrick House will be located in the Greater Birmingham area, on a campus that is in a safe, residential area, close to businesses and entertainment, with access to public transportation.

How can I apply?

We will have both printed application forms as well as an online application process available before construction begins.
